BEST BET – Cape Horn

Whilst we don’t like to back short priced favourites its hard to look beyond past the chances of Cape Horn. Having made nine starts, he has only posted one win but was close last time out. This is a step down in grade and he sets the standard.

THE DANGER – Fed Express

There are many who arrive out of form in this race but Fed Express is interesting. A winner on debut, he then backed that up with a third place finish. He has only made six starts and has struggled since his encouraging start. However, his early form stacks up well in this field and he can’t be completely discounted.

VALUE BET - Warrior of War

The value could lie with Warrior of War. A runner with thirteen starts, he is a winner and has posted a second and third since. He has been out of sorts since, but a return to his previous level should make him competitive once again.

BEST BET – Zambrosia

In race three Zambrosia has been positioned as a warm favourite. She has done all of her racing at a higher level than this but is coming off a five month break. She represents top connections but will need to be at her best to win here. Some may feel she is vulnerable.

THE DANGER – Noivern

Noivern could be a danger here. A maiden after 23 runs, there is no guarantee that he wins here but he has placed in nine of those runs. He comes here off a second which came at this track and conditions should be right up his street once again.

VALUE BET – Unshackled

If you feel the top two could be taken on, Unshackled could be worth a second look. He is yet to win after fourteen starts but has placed in three of his four starts. He has been giving his backers value for money of late and could do so one again.

In the penultimate race of the day Sarissa will start as the favourite. She has been a winner just once in her sixteen starts but has four placed efforts at Riccarton from seven starts. This is a small step down on her recent efforts and she should find this easier.

THE DANGER - Devil In Disguise

Devil In Disguise is one of the most experienced horses in the field and has amassed over $100,000 dollars. Almost half of his runs have come here and he has produced two wins and ten placed efforts in that span. He seems to like it here and with Sarissa a risky option at the top of the market he could pick up the pieces.

VALUE BET – Aviva

Aviva is our long shot of the day and comes here having won here last time out. That was her first win in thirty starts so there is no guarantee that she follows up. However, she is in the form of her life and that can’t be ignored.
