I think Melanite is good enough to get the job done in Race 5 today at Hawkesbury. The gelding has to lug around the top weight, but I like the booking of Alysha Collett, who is performing well at the moment. Fired first-up at the Gold Coast and then finished third at Wyong. He didn’t impress much last time out, but he has been back at the trials and should go well here.

With a career record of 10:1-4-3, is now the time Electric Elvis can finish first instead of just in the top three? I think so! He kicked off his prep last time out at Seymour with a second placing just 0.75L off the leader. He’ll be fitter for that run under his belt, and I think his distance suits him. The wide draw is a slight issue, but if he can get across easily enough, he’ll be in this up to his eyeballs.

I’m looking for Boom Boom Ray to go boom at Mackay today. The gelding looks good enough to give the favourite a run for his money, and the $5.00 we’re getting for the 5YO right now looks worth it. The only real query for me is the wide barrier, but this is a small field. Boom Boom Ray is going around at each-way odds, so take that to hedge your bets a little bit.

  • Mind Ya Bizz broke through in style last start at Gosford and looks capable of going on with the job. She rates as the horse to beat in Race 6 at Hawkesbury.
  • Mantua should appreciate this company after a sound effort last start and comes from a stable that places its runners well. He can make a significant impact in Race 6 at Pinjarra.
  • Five Down gets back to non-metro grade and comes from the powerful Luke Fernie stable. He is capable of making his presence felt in Race 7 at Pinjarra.
