A whole heap of scratchings already in this one, and we’re down to a nine-runner field. With more rain around in Sydney, this could shrink the field even further. The filly is yet to contest a race on a Heavy-rated track in her very short career. However, her first and only race was on a Soft6, where she dominated, winning by 5.44L. Jockey James McDonald saddles up, which only improves her chances.

Switching over to Flemington now for the Group 1 Australian Guineas, and there is a lot to like about Observer, who is the favourite for this one. He is tackling this one second-up after taking out the Group 2 Autumn Stakes, also at Flemington, last time out. A lot of the same runners line up for this one, and Ethan Brown retains the ride. The colt should go on to win his second Group 1.

Quick Analysis:

Of course, the talk of the town is Autumn Glow for the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes today, with the mare paying around the $1.26 mark. But there’s obviously not a lot of value with her, so I’m going with Aeliana, who is at a much more respectable $1.75 for the place. Aeliana draws barrier one and will carry the equal-lightest weight in the race. She most recently finished second behind Autumn Glow in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.

Stats and Insights

  • Cherry Bomshell was strong, breaking her maiden at Eagle Farm and has already proven herself at the track. She looks well placed to make it back-to-back wins in Race 4 at Eagle Farm.
  • Music Fever is coming off a dominant win at Beaudesert and drops back to non-metro grade on a Saturday. She looks well placed to score again in Race 6 at the Gold Coast.
  • Apulia is chasing a hat-trick after back-to-back wins at Ascot and now drops to a preferred distance. He looks primed to make it three straight in Race 7 at Flemington.
