At around the $1.55 mark, Oliveanotherday doesn’t exactly scream value. But $1.55 is better than nothing, and you can always add it as the anchor in your multi if you like. The gelding backed up his excellent recent trial form with a win first-up at Ballarat. He was the favourite in that one and won by a whopping 4.75L. Damian Lane sticks, and he can overcome the rise in weight.

There are a few hot chances in this one, but it’s hard for me to go past Stylebender, who is looking for the hat-trick of wins here today. In his run before the two wins, he finished second by just 0.17L. He draws well, and Mollie Fitzgerald, who has been on board for the last three runs, sticks with him here. They also get a 3kg weight relief.

Back to Caulfield now for the last of the day. I’ll be on Runlikenencyption, who has been decent without getting a win since Boxing Day. Jockey Craig Williams was on board that day for the win, and he takes over the ride for today. He seems to do his best work on a Good-rated track, so let’s hope the rain stays away in Melbourne. He’ll have options from barrier five as well.

  • Carravilla is in outstanding form with three wins from five runs this campaign and boasts an excellent record at Doomben. She looks the one to beat in Race 3 at Doomben.
  • Spicy Thang returns from a 19-week break after finishing strongly at Ascot last start. She looks well placed in Race 6 at Ascot.
  • Delrico finished sixth at Doomben last start and now steps up in distance for the first time. He can get the job done at decent odds in Race 8 at Doomben.
