The wide barrier is somewhat of a query for I Am Steffi, but the filly is in red-hot form coming into this one. She kicked things off with a second placing at Grafton by just 0.07L; she then broke her maiden last time out at the same track by over 2L. Archie McColm retains the ride, and he brings a 2kg weight relief as well. She’s got the fitness to fire back-to-back after winning last Sunday.

I’m in Geelong now for my next best bet, and Charming Deel looks like the win to be on in my eyes. It’s a decently-sized field, and the mare does come into this one as the favourite. She’s fairly deep into her prep, and has been good without managing to break through for a win. She has three second placings, including last time out at Warrnambool with Linda Meech in the saddle.

We’re currently getting even money for Tacitly, and while that’s certainly nothing to write home about, he is the deserved favourite. He finished second at this track last time out, to kick off his campaign. I think the drop back down to 1,400m here looks slightly more suitable. Mitchell Bell sticks for this one, and they get a slightly better barrier draw. There’s a lot to like.
