For the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes, I’m going with the inform filly who has a hat-trick of wins in New Zealand, including last time out in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks. She won that one by 2.5L and looks in fine form heading across the ditch. She’s had one trial at Randwick since, and books the services of the mighty JMac. She does draw wide, but hopefully that means she can stay out of trouble.

In Flemington now for the Group 1 Australian Cup, and there looks to be a few live chances, but I’ll be on Birdman, who has been doing everything right so far. Finished fourth first-up, just 0.86L off the pace, and his two runs since then have resulted in back-to-back wins in the Blamey Stakes and Peter Young Stakes. Ben Melham has been on board the entire prep and sticks with him again.

Quick Analysis:

Have to be wary of Dubai Honour, but it is pretty hard to go past Aeliana in this small field for the Group 1 Tancred Stakes. Another Chris Waller and JMac combo, and while there isn’t exactly a lot of value, Aeliana is a decent anchor for multis. After back-to-back second placings, the mare broke through for her second Group 1 victory last time out in the Ranvet Stakes. I reckon she’ll be pretty hard to hold out.

Stats and Insights

  • Never Ordinary dominated to break her maiden last start at Morphettville Parks and has impressed in both career runs so far. She looks very hard to beat in Race 5 at Morphettville.
  • Wishful Thinker placed third last start at Kembla Grange when fresh and can go on with it here. He looks ready for the win in Race 6 at Wyong.
  • True Amor is coming off a win at Doomben on a soft track and is in strong form this campaign. He can surprise at decent odds in Race 7 at Doomben.
