Starting today in Goulburn with Samurai. He was a last start winner at Canberra across the same distance here. Jockey Dylan Gibbons sticks with the 5YO here. He draws wide, which doesn’t exactly work in his favour, but I reckon he would be much shorter if he did, so take the $3.75 while it’s offered. A class horse that can overcome the barrier.

Heading to the Sunshine Coast for this one, and I think Spies On has this in the bag. The filly broke her maiden last time out at the Sunshine Coast Poly track. In her run before that, she finished second, just 0.08L off the leader at Sunshine Coast. Ben Thompson saddles up once again. She’s the favourite, and for good reason too!

For the Bairnsdale Cup, I have my eye on Taka Speed. The gelding was building nicely into his prep with three wins from three attempts. But his run at Flemington put an end to his winning form. Taka Speed gets in light at the weights and will carry the equal-lightest weight of the race. Teo Nugent, who was on board for the first of Taka Speed’s hat-trick of wins, takes over in the saddle.

  • Capital Cheval should strip fitter after the latest run at Launceston on a soft track. He looks one of the main chances in Race 3 at Hobart.
  • Streak Of Winning is a proven track specialist at Sunshine Coast and draws perfectly from the inside. He looks the one to beat in Race 6 at Sunshine Coast.
