Quick Analysis:

From barrier two, I think A Pound Of Salt can get the chocolates. The gelding has been close this prep, but hasn’t managed to break through for a win. This includes back-to-back fourth placings at Warwick Farm and Port Macquarie. Rory Hutchings, who was on board four runs back, saddles up. The $5.50 currently on offer looks like pretty good value.

Quick Analysis:

Pretty much every runner in this field has been given a chance (according to the bookmakers), but I do have my eye on Toronado Boom, who is currently priced at $6.50. The 5YO won back in April at Echuca, and he got the cobwebs out recently with a run at Swan Hill. He likes this track, breaking his maiden here, and is a previous second-up winner. Take him to win or at each-way odds.

Top Pick:

1. Moussaka

Quick Analysis:

Last but certainly not least, I’m heading to Balaklava, and I’ll be on Moussaka in Race 5. The gelding has to carry the top weight, but I think he just has that little bit of edge over the rest of the field. There have already been four scratchings for this one, so that only improves his chances. Jason Holder has been on board for both runs so far this prep and sticks again here. He is good enough to break his maiden against this field.

Stats and Insights

  • Monte Braveheart was narrowly beaten first-up at Canberra and looks suited by the rise in distance. He gets a golden chance to break through in Race 4 at Canberra.
  • Triptolemus resumes with blinkers applied for the first time and has the ability to make an immediate impact. He looks ready to fire fresh in Race 6 at Canberra.
  • Pareto has been racing consistently this prep and already boasts a win at Beaudesert. He looks the horse to beat in Race 6 at Beaudesert.
