Quick Analysis:

There’s still some value to be had with Melanite at Canterbury today. After back-to-back third placings to kick off this prep (both by under 1L), the gelding finally broke through for a win last time out. Kerrin McEvoy was on board for that win, and he sticks with the 4YO again today. He will have to lug around a bit of weight on his back, but barrier one sort of offsets that.

Quick Analysis:

Switching over to Bendigo now, and I have my eye on Zebra Finch. The gelding is currently the narrow favourite, but still has a smidge of value around him at the $3.00 mark. He goes back to non-metro grade for this one, and is well-placed to make some magic from barrier three. Jabez Johnstone is back in the saddle (the pair won two runs back) and the apprentice jockey brings a 1.5kg weight relief.

Quick Analysis:

In Race 5 today at Belmont, it’s hard for me to go past Marcos. The favourite draws the widest barrier of them all, but this is a relatively small field, and with the rain around, this could turn into a Heavy-rated track, where wide may be the place to be. The 3YO kicked off this prep with a win here at this track and trip. He backed up that run with a second placing at Northam last time out, by just 0.36L.

Stats and Insights

  • Wolf Junior resumes from a 25-week spell and comes into the race after back-to-back trials at Devonport Synthetic. He can make a strong return in Race 5 at Devonport Synthetic.
  • Quickzou resumes from a 22-week spell and comes into the race after an encouraging trial placing. He can make his presence felt fresh from a favourable draw in Race 5 at Doomben.
  • Gorbachev produced a dominant win at Eagle Farm last start and has multiple victories to his name at Doomben. He can use his strong course record to maintain that momentum in Race 6 at Doomben.
